Are You Called to be A David
You Have Searched Me and Known Me
O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
David; Psalm 139:1
Lord, You have examined [investigated: searched] me and know all about me
Expanded Bible
David’s passion for God, and the knowledge of God, in his days, seemed very much so unparalleled, unrivaled, and unmatched. David was also very much so filled with self-confidence and courage because of his relationship with God. David was also anointed as the future king of Israel in his youth by Samuel the Prophet, and then he goes and kills Goliath, and proceeds to lob Goliath’s head off with Goliath’s own sword, when never even having seen a single battle up close and personal, or so I would imagine. David had the heart of a leader, yet, at that time in his life, he was simply a shepherd boy tending to, and protecting, the family’s flock of sheep. And it is quite clearly alluded to that David was most likely and probably the smallest of all of his brothers, eight at the least.
David was confident and courageous enough to verbally invite God to search, examine, and investigate himself, who he was inside and out. David had nothing to hide from God. What about you and I though, are we trying to hide anything from God? Let me just tell you now, it will not do you any good. God is the one person we never have to hide from or worry about as the Bible tells us that He knows us inside and out; God knows us better than we know ourselves. He already knows, so why not, at that, have a conversation with Him about it, whatever “IT” is.
If we engage God fully, our Abba, while we invite Him to search us out, how much more do you think we can proactively and productively live our life, and with a much greater purpose? David engaged God every step of the way. Without God’s Spirit and power upon his life, what likelihood and probability would David have had in killing Goliath, Israel’s Enemy #1. Because of God, David was victorious. Because of God, David stood firm and courageous. Because of God, David was confident. Because of God, as it was with David, we can also stand courageous, confident, and victorious against our giants.
God knows us far better than we can ever know ourselves. He created us, He knows us inside and out. God knows our thoughts and intentions. There is not one aspect of who we are, in any way, that is hidden from God that He cannot see or does not know. So, David was in the right, in his confidence, to invite God to search him. David acknowledged God’s presence in his life; he was not afraid of God at all.
Prayer
Abba, Father God, thank You that You know me, that You have searched out my heart. I thank You that You know me far better than I can ever know myself. I ask that You would please fill me with the knowledge of myself that I do not have so that I can become a better person for the Kingdom of Heaven, that I may become a Man After Your Heart. In the Name of Jesus, Yeshua HaMashiach, our Messiah. Amen!
Questions for Further Thought
Have you invited God to search you and know you (despite the fact that He already knows us all intimately and much better than we know ourselves)?
Do you fear that God will look upon you unfavorably if He were to examine your heart, mind, and soul? He already has!
Invite God into every area of your life, ask Him to fill you with the same courage and confidence that David had so that we may stand “Victorious” against our enemy, Satan.
