ROMANS 12:3

For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

Leadership Insight : Others Oriented Thinking

PART 1

As leaders of people, one of our first and most important obligations is to put others first, especially those we  lead, those who we oversee, those who we supervise and manage.  Jesus did just this with His disciples.  Look at Jesus’ exemplary display of thinking of others first through the gospels when He healed people on the Sabbath, when He prevented the prostitute in John 8 from being stoned by the religious leaders (disregarding the man in the situation), when Jesus healed the blind, and so on, on the Sabbath, of all days.  Jesus’ regard for others was huge, monumental for that day and time, and as He Himself told us, “I did not come to be served, but to serve others” (Mark 10:45).  Jesus put the thought and practice of serving others before Himself every day.  He lived this example in plain sight right before His disciples, His closest friends.

How intentional have you been at putting others first before yourself?

Are you displaying this “Others First” attitude, mentality, and practice before the people that are closest to you, family, friends, coworkers, the people you manage and supervise?

By putting others first before yourself, you are letting it be known to them that they matter as a part of your team of people, as a part of your circle of influence.

THINKING OF OTHERS FIRST

For Some, putting others first may take more of an active role at home or around friends rather than at work, however, you do not need to be a manager or supervisor to be an influential leader in your work place.  Manager and Supervisor are simply different job titles and positions.  So, what kind of influence do you have at work on the people that are on your team?  Take some time to think and write down some ways in which you influence others or may start influencing others at home, in your community, and at work.

Think about your Family.  How can you better think of your family first before yourself?

Think about your Community.  How can you better think of your community first before yourself?

Think about your Work Team.  How can you better think of your team at work first before yourself?

Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
