So we are doing this, we just acquired our Sprinter van and are going to completely convert it to a full Class B RV Van. What an exciting next step to take in the RV Life. So we have been on this journey in the RV Life for three years now. Most all people have one vehicle, maybe two. And if they have a second vehicle it is usually some sort of car, Jeep, or other smaller suv type vehicle. We thought, what is the fun in that! However, if we had a Class B RV Van, we could do so much more.
There are many benefits to having a class b van. One being short trips out of the local area when our big rig is parked for the month. For example, when we park the big rig up at Thousand Trails in North Carolina for the month, we can then take the van out to the Blue Ridge Mountains for an overnighter, and then the next week or so we could go to the outer banks for a few days, all while not towing the 5th Wheel rig. Mountains, beaches and bridges, all so much easier in a van vs. the entire 60 feet of home and truck in tow mode.
Second, the ability to have an office on the road. We all know that when we Fulltime in the RV Life, we still need to work remotely. Well, just trying to designate a room in the house and shutting the door just doesn’t work so n such a small space. That is where the van comes into play. Here is the thing though with the class b van, build it yourself, please. Now I know, from current experience of starting our own conversion build that it’s a lot of work, but then you get what you actually want, you get to lay out everything exactly how you want, and if you don’t like it, before you mail it all down permanently, you have the ability to change it up.
Third, and here is the other part of building out your own van, or finding someone who can do it remotely with you, is the cost savings. Even a Class B RV Van can cost upwards to $150-200 k. No one wants to spend that much for a new class b. So you look used, $100-120 k. Still way too much. If you buy your van, speak everything out, I have calculated about $70 k to build this van out with everything you could possibly want, your own choice of furnishings and appliances and more.
What more do I have to say about this right now? Not much! Here is what it looks like now, in the beginning.
