Colorado, 1st Excursion
It’s hard to see a place like Colorado better as a traveler than living Colorado doing the VAN Life! I’ll get back to more about our VAN Build after this post!
Our first excursion and it’s panning out to be very successful. This is the first road trip in the van. we have been 3 years in a 5th wheel and travel trailer type setup, and this VAN Life mode of getting around adds so much more flexibility to traveling. Boon-docking is much much easier. The ability to pull in somewhere in the evening, cover the windows, and sleep for the night unbothered is much more easily done with 23 feet of vehicle vs. 60!
Colorado Springs has been on our list for the past three years since diving into this lifestyle. And now it’s here. And so we did. We accomplished the seemingly impossible for a first time mountain excursion of this extent, we took the VAN – Mighty Max – up to the top of Pukes Peak. That was something else.
Have you been to the Garden of the Gods? Quite the amazing site to see. The Balancing Rock, the first thing you see at the southern entrance, is absolutely incredible to see.

After a few days in the Colorado Springs area, we took our leave and headed over to Gunnison, Blue Mesa RV Resort. Absolutely beautiful, nestled into the mountains, lakes and rivers all along the road through the mountains. And to think that I never had the chance to see these area’s growing up. It’s amazing to be able to let my kids have the chance to experience these places growing up.
After Gunnison, it may be on to Zion National Park, we are just not quite so sure yet. Wherever it is though, it is sure to be an amazing adventure.
