Proverbs 1:10
My Son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.
King Solomon
Dear friend, if bad companions tempt you, don’t go along with them. (Message Bible)
Genesis 39:7-10; Ephesians 5:11-12
I love how this verse reads in the message Bible – “Dear friends, if bad companions temp you, do not go along with them.” With God as the Foreman, Jesus as the Forerunner, we know that we have a clear path that has already been paved ahead of us. God created this world good, as so He Himself declares; read Genesis 1 to find out for yourself. This world, however, has become overgrown with the weeds of Satan: sin, deception, destruction, drunkenness, sexual immorality, and much more… The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 that light and darkness have no fellowship together, that Jesus and Belial, or that a believer has no part with an unbeliever. We are to stand apart from this world (though we are in this world), be a living sacrifice for God (as Jesus was God’s sin offering for the world). We are called to run against the currents of this world, not to get caught up in the flow of the world (Romans 12:2).
Our bodies are the living temple of God’s Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19; 2 Corinthians 6:16; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17). So, if we, our bodies, are the Temple of the Holy Spirit, should we not, all the more, strive to keep our bodies clean and purified, inside and out, physically and spiritually, denying the things of this world? Let us put clean food alone in our bodies (Deuteronomu 4:11,20), let us cleanse our bodies, internally and externally (Psalm 51:10; Ezekiel 18:31; Ephesians 2:10; Matthew 5:8; Acts 15:9), let us be joined to the Body of Christ Jesus, the Church (Romans 7:4; 1 Corinthians 10:15-17; 12:12; Ephesians 3:6; 4:12; Hebrews 10:10).
We are not to talk with the language of this world, but that of such language that is to build up one another, encourage one another, teach one another in the ways of the Lord our God (Ephesians 4:29-5:4). Our words say a lot about the type of person we are (James 3:10). Our words will be one of the two following types: Blessings or Curses. The people we surround ourselves with will know our heart and spirit by the words we speak (1 Timothy 1:6; Matthew 12:34; 15:18-19; Luke 6:45), which, if we allow, can be highly influenced by the people we call family and friends. People continuously try to pull us away from God naturally due to the influence the world and Satan may have on them, and their unbelieving, hardened hearts. Surround yourself today and forever with the company of angels so that you may not be overcome by the enemy.
